DRIVE from Seattle or Vancouver on Highway 101 along British Columbia's spectacular Sunshine Coast. Two ferry trips, one from Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons and the other from Earl's Cove to Saltery Bay will bring you to Powell River and then to Okeover Arm and Desolation Resort.

JUST 10 minutes west of Desolation Resort at the end of Highway 101 lies Lund, the gateway to beautiful Cope Island Marine Park. Visit the historic Lund Hotel and local gift and craft shops. Charter a scenic cruise to Desolation Sound, kayak Cope Island, or take a water taxi to Savary Island. Try kayaking instruction or visit the dive base. Experience fine and casual dining or just enjoy a cappuccino.

ONLY 20 minute south of Desolation Resort by paved road is the city of Powell River. Powell River hosts two shopping malls, art and craft shops along Marine Avenue, delightful dining opportunities, a busy airport, and one of British Columbia's newest hospitials.

Several dive and charter companies have PADI certification and can take you to world renowned dive areas.


Directions to the resort:

From Vancouver City

Follow highway 99 north to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal. Take ferry (Sunshine Coast & Powell River) to Langdale. Ferry ride is approximately 45 minutes. In Langdale follow highway 101 north to Earls Cove (about 75 minute drive). At Earls Cove take the second ferry to Saltery Bay. Ferry ride is approximately 50 minutes.

In Saltery Bay follow highway 101 north through Powell River to Lund. About 2 km before Lund turn right on Malaspina Road. There is a Desolation Resort sign just before this turn off. Drive on Malaspina Road for about 2 k. Turn right on Leslie and right on Dawson Road.

There are signs for the resort on the Malaspina Road. No reservations needed for the ferries. Payment is made for ferry from Horseshow Bay to Langdale (approximately $40 Canadian for vehicle and people). Second ferry from Earls Cove to Saltery Bay is free.

From Vancouver Island

Take ferry from Little River / Courtenay / Comox to Powell River. In Powell River follow signs for highway 101 north to Lund. About 2 km before Lund turn right on Malaspina Road. There is a Desolation Resort sign just before the turn off. Drive on Malaspina Road for about 2 km. Turn right on Leslie and right on Dawson Road. There are signs for the resort on Malaspina Road.
Ferry cost is about $40.00 Canadian for vehicle and two people.
